Sting, who retired from Wrestling in 2024, opened up on John Cena's retirement match against Gunther on December 13, 2025, at SNME. The former AEW Superstar gave Cena his flowers and regarded him as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Sting claimed that he'll be rooting for Cena in his last match and was sure it would turn out to be good.

The former WWE Superstar showed up on 'Going Ringside' where he was asked about Cena's retirement tour. The Wrestling legend had only good things to say about Cena. "Kudos to John Cena. He’s one of the greatest of all time. I love to see it. I’m rooting for him," Sting said on the show.

"I’m hoping it turns out to be phenomenal. I’m sure that it will," Sting added on Going Ringside. Cena is set to face the Ring General in his last match on December 13, 2025, at SNME. The 2-time world champion won the Last Time is Now Tournament and became eligible to retire John.

How Gunther qualified to retire John Cena?

Gunther returned on Raw for the first time in over 100 days after SummerSlam and faced Je'Von Evans in the first round match of the Last Time is Now Tournament. He won it and faced Carmelo Hayes in the Quarterfinal matchup.

Gunther progressed to the semifinal, where he was up against Solo Sikoa. After beating the leader of the MFTs, Gunther forced a submission win over LA Knight to become the No.1 Contender to face Cena in his retirement match. All of Gunther's matches in the tournament were a banger and emerged as the deserving winner.
