The duo had a crazy brawl with each other on WWE Raw after the Elimination Chamber, which led to their match next week. Adam Pearce tried his best to stop their brawl. While he was able to stop it momentarily, the duo had a brawl even backstage on Raw. Pearce had enough and asked Seth to stop it from his end. Rollins felt Pearce had the easiest of jobs to announce their match.

At the Royal Rumble, Punk eliminated both Seth and Roman. He was soon eliminated from the match by Logan Paul, which led to the trio having a brawl with each other on the ringside. Seth went crazy and attacked the duo. He particularly went after the OTC and delivered him multiple Curb Stomps.

Roman was heartbroken as Punk eliminated him despite being teammates a few months ago at the Survivor Series War Games. He was declared out of action for an indefinite time after the Royal Rumble. The perfect way for him to announce his return would be to interfere in Seth and Punk's match.
