Explained: Why John Cena namedropped Claudio Castagnoli, Matt Cardona, and Nic Nemeth on WWE SmackDown (X)

Summary

Advertisment
  • John Cena namedropped Claudio Castagnoli, Matt Cardona, and Nic Nemeth on WWE SmackDown
  • It could be on a funny note as a tribute to their old Pipe bomb segment
  • The Last Real Champion's intention could also be to take a dig at CM Punk's past relationship with the trio

John Cena namedropped Claudio Castagnoli, Matt Cardona, and Nic Nemeth on WWE SmackDown while cutting his Pipe Bomb against CM Punk, giving a tribute to their feud in 2011. The segment could be a reference to Punk's "Hey Colt Cabana, how ya doin'?" in 2011, or also a dig at his past relationship with the trio across promotions.

On WWE SmackDown, Cena ensured a disqualification for his match against R Truth and went on to attack Punk with a couple of shots from the title, followed by an Attitude Adjustment through the table. Following it, he cut a pipe bomb of his own, which blurred the line between story and reality. In his promo, Cena namedropped the trio.

The Leader of the Cenation Army waved his hands and sent a 'Hi' message and asked about the trio's well-being, similar to how Punk enquired about Colt Cabana in his promo in 2011. It is claimed that Cena, Punk, and Claudio have a coffee chat group, as revealed by Seth Rollins in one of the interviews, which could mean they do not have any beef.

John Cena touches the social media perception of CM Punk burying talents

However, the perception on social media is that Punk buried the trio when he was at his prime in WWE. The only guy with whom Punk might have a beef among the trio could be Nic Nemeth, as Punk ensured Ryan Nemeth was thrown out of AEW Collision when he was the EVP.

Apart from it, there seemingly is nothing for the trio to be against Punk. It could just be a part of the story to refer to the individuals who are regarded to be buried by Punk, while in reality, they were not.
