Damian Priest successfully defended the World Heavyweight Championship at the Clash at the Castle. The Judgement Day member overcame Drew McIntyre in their backyard, thanks to a bit of indirect assistance from CM Punk. There are a lot of reasons why Priest won the title. WWE could have easily booked McIntyre for a win. But Priest showed the calibre of a world champion.

The setup for the buildup of Priest has been taking place right from WrestleMania XL. The World Champion does not like to get assistance from his teammates to defend the title. There are instances of him being angry for getting assistance. This could lead to a good story between Priest and the rest of the members of Judgement Day, who are likely to get enough of Proest one day.

The implosion of Judgement Day seems inevitable. When it happens, WWE needs a story and a title to set a match between Damian and either Finn Balor or Dominik Mysterio. For that match to be executed well, Prist must be a strong champion with others being strong heels. Hence, WWE is building on either side with a unique story, which is not bad.

Is Damian Priest vs Gunther a better idea than Drew McIntyre vs Gunther?

Last week on Monday Night Raw, the Judgement Day was barred from the ringside. It was planned to further elevate Damian to show he can defend titles without the help of his teammates. During the promo, Priest unknowingly (Or knowingly) took a dig at his members saying that the World title was a result of his efforts and he could defend it by his might.

Such factors are leading to a potential implosion, which is likely to happen rather soon than later. Moreover, if Drew had managed to win, it would have been him vs Gunther at Summerslam, a feud that has already taken place. WWE probably wanted to try Priest vs Gunther at Cleveland. It might be the PLE where Finn, Dirty Dom, and JD turn against Priest.
