Kevin Owens explained the reason behind attacking Cody Rhodes on WWE Smackdown. The star wrestler said Cody brought it upon himself by teaming up with Roman Reigns at Bad Blood. Cody replied saying his decision to team up with the OTC had nothing to do with KO and added that he had no right to take on Randy Orton.
KO and Cody were set to go face-to-face against each other. Nick Aldis informed Rhodes that Kevin was not in the arena. But the American Nightmare did not believe it and went to the ring. As he called Kevin out, the former world champion came out. He then gave an explanation behind his attack.

Kevin Owens said he was with Cody all the way along right from finishing his story to the point where he needed a bit of help to fight the Bloodline. KO expressed his unhappiness over Cody teaming with Roman who had decided to take him out for good in the past.

Owens blamed Cody for everything that took place between him, Rhodes, and Orton. However, Cody claimed that Kevin had none but himself to blame. He said Kevin wanted the world to be against him. The world champion said Owens was the one who destroyed everything for the trio.
The star wrestler said KO hated himself. As he wanted to face Owens, the latter said he would decide the terms and would not allow Cody to dictate to him. Aldis and the security guards managed to stop a potential brawl between the two. As Owens headed back through the stands, Rhodes returned to the locker room.
He had to listen to negative opinions about him by Carmelo Hayes. The former NXT Champion claimed that Cody was the one at the fault. It ensured that both went against each other. Aldis stopped the duo and announced a match between the two next week on the blue brand. Fans felt KO might interfere in the match to teach Cody a lesson.
