Triple H shares how he planned the story behind John Cena's heel turn Photograph: (X)
When John Cena turned on Cody Rhodes at the Elimination Chamber event, everyone was surprised. Fans were shocked to learn that after 20 years as a babyface, Cena had turned into such a heel. Keeping that in mind, Triple H has now described how he presented Cena with the notion. Triple H disclosed in an interview with High Performance that he spoke with John Cena about the possibility of making him a heel.
He suggested that they turn John Cena into a heel, which was the one thing no one ever wanted to do. Cena has been the most popular babyface for more than 20 years, Triple H pointed out, but Triple H believed that if they never attempted something new, it would always seem like a lost opportunity. They had the opportunity to view Cena's new side and see what it would look like.
