When John Cena turned on Cody Rhodes at the Elimination Chamber event, everyone was surprised. Fans were shocked to learn that after 20 years as a babyface, Cena had turned into such a heel. Keeping that in mind, Triple H has now described how he presented Cena with the notion. Triple H disclosed in an interview with High Performance that he spoke with John Cena about the possibility of making him a heel.
He suggested that they turn John Cena into a heel, which was the one thing no one ever wanted to do. Cena has been the most popular babyface for more than 20 years, Triple H pointed out, but Triple H believed that if they never attempted something new, it would always seem like a lost opportunity. They had the opportunity to view Cena's new side and see what it would look like.
During their initial phone conversation, John remained silent and simply listened to Triple H. During the podcast, Triple H shared how he revealed the idea to John Cena. "I went to John and said, 'What if we pulled the lever that no one wanted to ever pull and we turned you heel?'. Because to me, it sort of felt like if you never do it, like we just left that dangling there. In the first conversation we had about it on the phone, John is very great with pitches ... when you get all the way to the end, he was like, 'Wow, I didn't think thats where you were going to go with this, it's bold, and I f***ing love it."

The entire concept was outlined by Triple H. Cody is offered to join The Rock's side at Elimination Chamber but declines. The presence of Cena suggests that he supports Cody and opposes The Rock. However, the twist occurs when Cena abruptly turns on The Rock, starts attacking him, and beats him up. When Cena "sells out," that is.
