Sami Zayn defends his Intercontinental title in Montreal, Chad Gable turns heel

Sami Zayn successfully defended his first match as the Intercontinental champion. Main eventing the Monday Night Raw in his own backyard in Montreal, Sami got all the support from the crowd. Gable surprisingly got booed by the crowd. The match progressed and Gable was to make a quick impact with his skills on display. Alpha Academy's Superstar aimed at winning the title.

Through the progression of the match, Chad Gable targeted the left knee of Sami. Before the match, he claimed to be aware of a weakness of the Intercontinental champion. It seemed as if Chad targeted the injured knee of Sami. It became worse for the hometown boy as the match progressed. He visibly struggled to move well in the ring. Gable had no complaints about it. 

Then there were exchanges of German Suplexes from both Wrestlers. Gable delivered three of them and Zayn was quick to counter it by his German Suplexes. Sami got increasingly vulnerable as the match progressed. The home crowd and Sami's wife encouraged him to put on a fight. Gable still dominated and looked a step closer to claiming his maiden single's title.

Chad Gable turns heel

Gable got hold of Sami's ankle a couple of times. The ankle lock was firm and Sami had no hiding. He somehow managed to escape it. The IC champion then brought his lock and limped around to escape from the momentum of Chad. Towards the end, Sami fought his way back and delivered a Helluva kick to pin Gable. To the roar of the crowd, Sami defended the title.

After the match, Zayn sported a great spirit and appreciated Chad for the fight. It seemed like the Raw Superstar could not take the loss anymore. He cried and went away from the scene. As Sami gave his father and wife a hug, Gable attacked from behind and delivered an ankle lock to Sami. In the process, he turned heel and sought revenge against Sami. The crowd booed Chad for disrespecting their hometown boy.
