Rob Van Dam claims Vince McMahon brought ECW to destroy it

Rob Van Dam made a massive statement on WWE's intentions of purchasing ECW. He felt the move from Vince McMahon to buy ECW was only to destroy it. Rob claimed that the old members of the company and its style were replaced with new breeds. The WWE Hall of Famer claimed that Vince did not like when the fans chanted "ECW".

Rob said he observed some instances where the motive of Vince McMahon to buy ECW seemed only to bury it completely. "When WWE brought ECW back, there was several times there that could have been taken as evidence that they were just bringing it back to destroy it," said Rob Van Dam in the interview.

He noted the changes ECW underwent in the tenure of Vince. He highlighted how McMahon wore the ECW belt and a lot of old members were replaced with the new ones after buying Paul Heyman's promotion. "I mean Vince [McMahon] was wearing the belt, and they changed all the OG's with The New Breed," added Rob.

In 2024, the new fans have gotten to know more about ECW due to a lot of reasons. When Paul Heyman was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, he gave a speech on ECW. The promotion was also mentioned in the series "Biography: WWE legends." On November 6, WWE's NXT took place in the ECW 2300 arena.

Rob was happy to have a legends contract with WWE. However, he looked back at the time when Vince was the boss of the promotion and claimed he had all motives to destroy the promotion. Van Dam felt Vince and the management were making a statement to the members of ECW.

He felt Vince never liked when the fans chanted "ECW". "To me, they were making a statement there, and I know Vince didn't like it when the fans would chant ECW during his shows when some of us [that] are represented were in the ring," Rob Van Dam concluded.
