'Ref counted the 3' - Fans react to controversial ending between Sheamus and Bron Breakker on SNME (Source: X)
The match between Sheamus and Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship on Saturday Night's Main Event had a controversial ending. The referee botched the pinfall as he counted three despite Bron landing his foot on the apron. Breakker was happy to retain his title after delivering a spear to Sheamus to claim a win via pinfall.
As expected, the match between Sheamus and Bron turned out to be a banger. Fans were invested in the match and acknowledged its quality with the chants of "This is Awesome". There were some great spots in the match which will be remembered for a long time. It was Bron who had the last laugh in the night.
The Celtic Warrior has been chasing the IC title ever since returning to WWE Raw after WrestleMania. The star wrestler has got numerous shots at the only title he is yet to win in WWE. However, in each of his attempts, Sheamus has failed to get the job done. SNME was not any different but with an exception.
Referee's botch ensures Bron Breakker's title defense against Sheamus on SNME
The former world champion was about to claim a win but a referee's botch prevented him from becoming a Grand Slam Champion. The Celtic Warrior delivered a Brogue kick and went for pinfall. The referee counted two and Bron lifted his right foot and placed it on the apron.
However, the referee did not see it properly and counted the third. Only after that, the referee saw Bron's foot and asked the match to continue. Jess in the commentary box went mad at it, repeatedly mentioning that the referee counted three, and did not declare Sheamus the winner.
The sequence led to the Celtic Warrior's disappointment. Breakker took full advantage of the situation and delivered a spear which ensured his win to retain the title. Fans were unhappy with the botch and went mad at the referee who could not do his job well. Yet another week passed by and Sheamus could not become the IC Champion.
