Randy Orton and Mankind go back in memory lane to recall their Backlash 2004 match

WWE: Randy Orton and Mick Foley recalled about one of their old matches in a recent interview. The Mankind came out of retirement to take on Randy Orton in the match.

Randy Orton and Mick Foley went back in memory lane and recalled their match. WWE posted footage where the two former opponents had an interaction with each other. The discussion was regarding their match in Backlash 2004. It was historic as Mankind came back from retirement to face Randy. It helped Orton a lot in his career and elevated him as a top heel.

From there on, there was no looking back for the viper, as he became one of the top heels of the company. The match against Cactus Jack proved the worth of Orton as a main event candidate. A few months after it, the legend killer went on to become the youngest world champion. Though he lost the title to Triple H later, it gave a huge momentum to Randy. 

Before their Backlash match, The Rock had teamed up with Foley to take on the Evolution in WrestleMania 20. As The Rock and the Mankind lost the match, there was no way for Foley but face Orton. The match in Backlash was brutal. To date, it is regarded as one of the most brutal matches in the history of WWE. Foley truly put over the young talent in the match.

'It was really special for Mick Foley to come out of retirement' - Randy Orton 

In their interaction with each other, the duo of Foley and Orton spoke about their brutal match in Backlash. The legend killer felt that it was great from the part of the Hall of Famer to come out of retirement just to face him. Orton said that the match that happened after WrestleMania 20 meant a lot to him, especially after beating The Rock and Mankind in Madison Square Garden.  

"I thought it was really special for Mick Foley to come out of retirement just to work with me at Backlash. This was a month after I just picked up a win against The Rock and Mick Foley at WrestleMania 20 in Madison Square Garden, and I'm flying high, man," said Randy as he expressed his gratefulness for the Mankind for the match.
