John Cena appeared on Chris Van Vliet's podcast, where he revealed the reason behind not choosing his opponents. The veteran noted how Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Brock Lesnar left WWE due to different reasons. While he didn't blame anyone for their decisions, Cena felt everything happens for a purpose, for which he regarded himself grateful.
"A lot of that stuff’s beyond control of even the people who own the sandbox. If I decide to walk, I have contractual obligations, but then I’m not gonna be there on the 13th. Like, if I decide that, you know, and they’ll figure it out," Cena said on Chris Van Vliet's podcast.

The star wrestler noted that some of the biggest names left when he was young in the main roster. "I saw Austin get fired, you know what I’m saying. I saw Brock leave. I saw, you know, Dwayne take his break, and I don’t sweat any of those guys for what they did. Austin was worn out," the 17-time world champion added in his statement.
"I don’t fault people for being like, I can’t do this right now," - John Cena
He also noted that Pat McAfee left commentary due to a different opportunity and being exhausted, which led to Wade Barrett stepping up. He hence believed looking back at things doesn't help and added that he tends to not choose his opponents and accept them the way they come.

"Brock was probably going to assault somebody in an airport, and Dwayne had such great opportunities, I don’t fault people for being like, I can’t do this right now. That’s why I don’t choose my opponents," Cena revealed in his statement in the podcast.
