Cena defended WWE's move to get the viral moment ahead of WrestleMania with the introduction of his heel turn. He felt the need to give chances for celebrities to test how far they could go.
"It’s also okay for us to say we want a lot of eyes and we want to create a moment, because you never know. You can’t tell if someone’s going to run with it, but you have to give them a chance," the 17-time world champion said on 'What do you wanna talk about?' show.

The veteran noted how celebrities from the past like Cyndi Lauper and Liberace were involved with WWE very early from 1980s. "We’ve always had opportunities to mesh worlds, going all the way back to Cyndi Lauper and Liberace at WrestleMania I. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t," Cena added.
John Cena hints at pivots in his retirement run
The Leader of the Cenation Army claimed that many have been criticial about his retirement run due to the creative booking. He felt WWE might have had a plan for his heel run with The Rock and Travis Scott present, but had to pivot with them not being available for the remainder of his run.

"What I love about the past year is that so many people have been critical of so many moments and blame it on this fictional ‘book’ or creative direction. Like, ‘They didn’t have any long-term booking for this?’ Maybe they did. That s*** changed," the 47-year-old noted.
