MJF returned to AEW on the 17th December episode of Dynamite and cut a promo against Swerve Strickland and Hangman Adam Page. While addressing the two former WWE Superstars, MJF name-dropped the Stamford-based promotion, which shocked the fans. The audience booed when MJF took WWE's name, while Swerve continued to listen to what he had to say.

As the reaction in the arena was negative to say the least, MJF proceeded and termed WWE as a perfectly good company. The promo was directed at both Swerve and Hangman, who were in WWE NXT at one point. In his promo, MJF stressed the fact that he's the greatest home grown talent as far as AEW is concerned.
