Drew McIntyre beating CM Punk was so poetic. Given the story between the two since the latter's return at the Survivor Series 2023, it was fitting that the way Drew won the match was always the way Punk operated. It also had the story of Seth Rollins involved showing how the company has a long plan for a triple-threat feud between the three.

At the Royal Rumble, CM Punk tore his tricep and ended up remaining out of action for a long time. Drew irked Punk by saying that he prayed for it to happen. From there, the long rivalry between the two started. Before WrestleMania, Drew was upset by the fact that Seth Rollins was worried about the match with Cody Rhodes against The Rock and Roman Reigns.

The Scottish Warrior asked Seth to withdraw from the match and concentrate on their match. Ironically the exact opposite happened at WrestleMania. It was Drew who was too obsessed with Punk in the match. Drew forced Punk to attack him. And when he did, Damain Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to become the world champion.

Full circle between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk

All the talks were about Seth being obsessed but McIntyre was obsessed with Punk which cost him the title. In three instances after WrestleMania, Punk cost McIntyre. While one of them was for qualification for the world title, the other two were for the world title in PLEs like the Clash at the Castle and the Money in the Bank.

After MITB, McIntyre was suspended from Raw for going aggressive on GM Adam Pearce. Drew probably learned that patience was key to his success. He remained calm and did not attack Punk even when he got a chance. It was Punk who was impatient and fell to Drew's distraction at SummerSlam. His obsession with the bracelet over the match against Drew cost him at SummerSlam.
