Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins have had a unique relationship in WWE. It all started in 2022 when Seth was given a WrestleMania match against a surprise opponent, which was revealed to be a returning Cody. Throughout the year, the duo fought against each other, which ended in a Brutal Hell in a Cell Match.

Despite suffering an accident and fighting with a torn pec, Cody showed up and picked up the win against the Visionary, which led to a mutual respect amongst each other. It translated to an on-screen alliance a year and a half later in 2024.

To fight the common cause of getting rid of Roman Reigns, the duo joined forces. Seth promised Cody to be his Shield and did exactly the same at WrestleMania XL, when he protected the American Nightmare on several instances to help him finish his story by sacrificing his own well-being.

However, about half a year after that, Cody joined forces with Roman to take on Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood. In 2025, Cody beat John Cena at SummerSlam to regain his Undisputed WWE Championship. Likewise, Seth cashed in his MITB contract on CM Punk to become the World Heavyweight Champion.

Ahead of their Crown Jewel Championship, a rivalry is triggered given their unique relationship in the past.
