Colby Covington entered his UFC bout against Robbie Lawler with the theme song of Kurt Angle. The bout was for the Welterweight Championship against the crowd favourite. Jorge was loved by the fans and it felt like Colby was the natural 'heel' in the bout. Hence, it was apt for him to bring his inner heel with the theme of Kurt.

As Colby entered the arena, the fans chanted "You Suck" similar to the way WWE fans used to when Kurt entered the arena. It was a great way for the MMA community to acknowledge the legend Kurt was. After all, he was an Olympic Gold Medalist in Wrestling with a broken freaking neck. Colby took the permission of Kurt Angle to use his theme since then.

In the entire bout, Covington received the heat from the fans. He was not cheered by the fans to win. It further certified his theme. The match turned out to be too one-sided as Covington won it with ease. His inner Kurt Angle probably woke up as he went bonkers against the crowd favorite. He won the bout with a unanimous decision from the referees.

Colby Covington's sensational win against Robbie Lawler

Colby vs Lawler was one of the best matches of 2019. It took place at ESPN 5 in Newark in August. In the three rounds, Colby had the scores of 50-44, 50-45, and 50-45 respectively. In the first round, it seemed like Lawler had a bit of fight in him and tried to be in the game. While the numbers have a different story to tell, Colby had better control in his UFC bout over Lawler.

The bout will be known for the records set by Covington in the process. He had a relentless pace and a high output of nearly 600 strikes, which remained the most in a single UFC fight for a long time. His Jab, taken down, and clinch works were good to watch. Since 2023, both WWE and UFC have merged in the same board under TKO.
