Cody Rhodes stood around the ringside for a long time and got emotional after seeing John Cena retire his ring gear. Along with CM Punk, the American Nightmare handed over his world title and asked Cena to wave at the fans. Jackie Redmond recognized Cody's moment with Cena's retired gear and conducted an impromptu interview.

The WWE host noted that Jey Uso had told her that Cody got emotional over Cena's retirement. She reminded Cody about it and asked what Cena's retirement personally meant to him, given he was emotional about it and stayed for a long time in front of his ring gear.

Cody claimed that one wouldn't want good things to end soon. "When it's that good, you don't want it to end," Rhodes said. The star wrestler later revealed the reason behind his tears. He noted how John was following the textbook template of being a pro wrestler and so good at it.

"I'm not trying to get emotional on his night," - Cody Rhodes

He added that the 17-time world champion taught many to follow high standards. The world champion added that he wasn't trying to get emotional on Cena's last night as an active wrestler. Cody added that he was trying to make of Cena's retired ring gear and what he was able to do with them.

"I know that's vague, but he (Cena) did everything by the book and taught so many people and set such a high standard, such a high bar. I'm not trying to get emotional on his night, but just take a moment and think about those sneakers and the man who filled those and what he was able to do," Rhodes added in his statement.
