Bengaluru FC gave a reference to the WWE Money in the Bank after beating Kerala Blasters FC in the group stage match in the ongoing ISL 2024/25. After continuing their winning streak in the ISL, BFC posted an image depicting Edgar Mendez climbing up the top of the ladder to claim the briefcase consisting of the bragging rights.
It was BFC's way of telling how good Mendez was in the game against Kerala Blasters FC in their own backyard. The edit involved Edgar's celebration on a ladder with the briefcase in his hand. It was similar to the theme of Money in the Bank where the contenders climb up the ladder to clinch the briefcase.
It was a great night for the Bengaluru FC as they managed to beat the arch-rivals Kerala 3-1. Edgar was the star of the show claiming two goals in the match. Diiaz gave the early lead for the visiting side as he scored a goal in the 8th minute of the match.
WWE's Money in the Bank winners in 2024
The Blasters came with an equalizer just before the first half. Jimenez's strike kept the home side's hopes alive in the match. The second half was dominated by BFC totally. The star of the show was Edgar who claimed goals in the 74th minute and 4th minute of the extra time respectively.
In WWE, the Money in the Bank contract holds a huge significance. Formed for the first time in 2005, it offers the wrestlers a chance to get a shot at the world title at any point in time in a year. It is a shortcut to becoming the world champion but must be earned.
In 2024, the winners of the Money in the Bank contract were Drew McIntyre and Tiffany Stratton in the men's and the women's divisions respectively. Drew failed to make a successful cash-in as CM Punk interfered and cost him the title. Tiffany has been attempting to cash-in her briefcase but hasn't been successful so far.
