In the latest episode of 'What's Your Story? With Steph McMahon', AJ Lee and Stephanie McMahon opened up on their tweet controversy of 2015. On the 25th of February in 2015, AJ Lee took to X, tagged Stephanie, and wrote two tweets. She had raised concerns about the lack of pay the female wrestlers were getting at the time.
Opening up on the same in the show, the 2026 WWE Hall of Famer said she was glad that someone brought it up, although she added that she didn't have the power to change anything. Stephanie added that AJ Lee played a key role in the evolution of Women's Wrestling.

"I was actually happy that you posted that. I wasn’t happy that it was directed at me because it wasn’t anything I had direct control over. But I was really happy that you did because that movement, the whole women’s evolution in WWE, it didn’t happen because of executives," McMahon said on 'What's Your Story? With Steph McMahon.'
"Change doesn’t happen unless there’s sacrifice," - AJ Lee
"For our audience, when they started the hashtag #GiveDivasAChance at that time, that’s what couldn’t be ignored. And the audience would never have gotten behind the movement if it weren’t for people like you who actually stood up for women publicly and took on the machine a little bit. It was a big deal, I thought," she added.

AJ felt that she had to do something from her end, as a sacrifice was necessary for the sake of a revolutionary movement. "I feel like change doesn’t happen unless there’s sacrifice. You have to be willing to lose everything to get what you want," Lee said.
