In the 21st century, every 10 years have witnessed the implosion of big factions in WWE. In 2004, Evolution's Ric Flair, Batista, and Triple H turned against Randy Orton. In 2014, the Shield's Seth Rollins turned against Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. In 2024, the New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned against Big E.
The implosion of the Evolution happened gradually. It did not implode totally with just an incident. However, the original Evolution featuring Flair, Batista, Randy, and Triple H came to an end in 2004. As the Viper became the youngest world champion, the rest of the members could not stand it. They all turned against Randy and kicked him out of the faction.
A few months later, Hunter tried to betray Batista. The mighty wrestler was intelligent and rather himself turned against Triple H. But 10 years after the Evolution's implosion, The Shield imploded. Seth was the wrecker-in-chief as he hit Dean and Roman with a steel chair. Hunther acted as a catalyst.
The Shield and the New Day's implosion
Till date, neither Roman not Seth have forgotten it. In many instances, the reference to the Shield comes from both Seth and Roman. At WrestleMania XL, Roman used a steel chair to hit Rollins. Likewise, the visionary tried to get under Roman's skin by donning the Shield's dress every now and then.
The latest implosion in 2024 was that of the New Day. The incident took place during the 10-year anniversary of the faction. Considering the increasing misunderstandings between Kofi and Woods, Big E tried to fix things between them despite having a neck injury.
Woods and Kofi were angry with the fact that Big E came a bit too late. They wanted the star wrestler to be on their side even during his tough period. They referred to Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, and Edge returning despite the neck pain. Big E was asked to vacate from the New Day on WWE Raw marking its end after 10 years.
