Wimbledon 2025 has already witnessed major upsets after the end of the first round matches. Some of the major favorites like Coco Gauff and Alexander Zverev exited the tournament along with Holger Rune, Zheng Qinwen, and others. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ons Jabeur got injured and retired midway from the match, which put an end to their tournament.

In the Men's division, Medvedev suffered a shocking loss at the hands of Benjamin Bonzi with the scoreline 6-7(2-7), 6-3, 6-7(3-7), 2-6. Zverev, one of the favorites, suffered a loss against Arthur Rinderknech in a 5-set thriller by scoreline 6-7(3-7), 7-6(10-8), 3-6, 7-6(7-5), 4-6. Likewise, Valetin Royer was ahead of Tsitsipas by 6-3 6-2 before the latter's retirement.

Holger Rune was knocked out of the tournament by Nicolás Jarry in one of the most unexpected ways. The 9th seeded player was 2 sets ahead and lost the three sets to end the tournament following the scoreline of 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 4-6. Lorenzo Musetti was knocked out by Nikoloz Basilashvili whose scoreline read 2-6, 6-4, 5-7, 1-6.

Perhaps the most shocking result of the first round of matches was Coco Gauff going down in straight sets to Nikoloz Basilashvili, especially after winning the French Open a few weeks ago. Paula Badosa exited the tournament after suffering a loss to Katie Boulter by 2-6, 6-3, 4-6. Ons Jabeur did not have luck, as she had to retire midway from her match.

Zheng Qinwen was knocked out of the tournament by Kateřina Siniaková with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-4, 1-6. These results have proven the fact that on a given day, a player can beat anyone if they give their best. One must not be surprised if more such shocking losses happen, given how confident the players are after making it to the main rounds from the qualifying rounds.
