One of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, The Wimbledon Championships, is set to celebrate its 137th edition this year. As the third Grand Slam event of the season, it promises to be an exciting fortnight of world-class tennis, with the top 70 players in the world gearing up to compete on the iconic grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Wimbledon 2024 Schedule:

The main event of Wimbledon will kick off on Monday, July 1, and will run until Sunday, July 14. The event spans two weeks, with the qualifying rounds for the Female singles taking place from Tuesday, June 25 to Thursday, June 27 in Roehampton.

Notably, the Female singles final is scheduled for Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. local time. The doubles final follows the Men's singles final on Sunday, July 14, and the mixed doubles final is on Thursday, July 11.

Wimbledon 2024 Participants and Draws:

In the Female and Male singles main draw, 128 players will compete, with 104 players receiving direct entry. Additionally, eight wild cards have been awarded, and 16 spots will be filled by players who advance through the qualifying rounds. The tournament features 32 seeded players in the singles draw, with no byes, meaning each player must navigate through seven rounds to claim the coveted Venus Rosewater Dish.

The Female and Male doubles main draw includes 64 teams, consisting of 57 pairs with direct entry and seven wild-card entries. Similar to the singles draw, there are no byes, and the champion duo must win six rounds to secure the title. The mixed doubles draw comprises 32 teams, with up to eight wild cards and eight seeded teams, requiring the winners to triumph in five rounds.

Wimbledon 2024 Defending Champions:

Marketa Vondrousova is the defending champion in the Female singles, having won her first Grand Slam title last year by defeating Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Vondrousova made history as the first unseeded player to win the Female singles title at Wimbledon.

In the Female doubles, Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strycova are the reigning champions. The unseeded duo clinched the title last year by overcoming Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-4 in the final. Hsieh and Strycova previously won the Femaledoubles title at Wimbledon in 2019.

The mixed doubles title is held by Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mate Pavic, who secured victory in a thrilling final against Xu Yifan and Joran Vliegen with a score of 6-4, 6-7(9), 6-3. Meanwhile, in Men’s singles, Carlos Alcaraz beat four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic by -6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Men’s doubles was won by the duo of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski.
