The first points of the Laver Cup go in favor of Team World as Francisco Cerundolo gets the better of Casper Ruud in the opening game of the match. This was a great start for John McEnroe and his boys who after the straight win by Cerundolo put them in the lead going into their title defense this season. There is no doubt that day one has started in favor of Team World and they will want to continue playing great tennis like this to keep themselves in the lead.

The next match was now between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thannasi Kokkinakis who had beaten the Greek God at the Flushing Meadows during the US Open this season. This was the perfect moment when Tsitsipas had the chance to take his revenge against the Australian. This was also the chance for the World number 12 to get some points on the board for Team Europe as well. This would have also been the chance for him to get back to winning ways after having some disappointing performances in the last few tournaments this season.

Tsitsipas gets the first points for Team Europe

The first set saw Tsitsipas dominate the Aussie straight away winning the first set by a margin of 6-1 and was just one set away from getting the first points for Team Europe in the Laver Cup. In the second set, we all might have witnessed some glimpses of great tennis from Kokkinakis, but in the end, it was Tsitsipas who won the set and made sure he got the first points for Team Europe and completed his redemption after the disastrous first-round loss in the US Open.

This was a great performance from the Greek God who got the first points for Team Europe in the tournament with a straight win. With this, the tournament has become interesting with the score even between Team Europe and Team World. With two more games to go, it will be interesting to see what this event has in store for us as we have already seen a great comeback win for the Greek number 1.
