The Laver Cup had begun and everyone was looking forward to the contest between Team Europe and Team World which were led by some of the biggest legends in the game in Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. The first singles match was between World number 9 Casper Ruud and Argentina's upcoming star Francisco Cerundolo.

This was the opening match of the Laver Cup between two players who have had some great battles with the Argentinian in the past. While Cerundolo has had an average season this year despite showing some great performances in some tournaments, Ruud has had a fairly decent season with 2 titles to his name and is one of the top-ranked stars in the world. This was a really good matchup where both the players were looking forward to opening the account for their respective teams in this event.

Cerundolo puts points on the board

There is no doubt that Ruud was the favorite in this first Laver Cup match but unfortunately, he could not start off well against Cerundolo who broke his serve and took the first set of the match to put the Norwegian ice man under pressure. The second set was another disappointing set for Ruud as Cerundolo got the better of him once again and won the opening game for Team World in the Laver Cup 2024. This was truly the game that belonged to the 26-year-old Argentinian who won a game against one of the top 10 players in the World.

This was a great win for Team World who will be confident to open their account going into the event.  We have to agree that this was a phenomenal performance from Cerundolo who has kept Team World's title defense alive in the Laver Cup. It is a great start for the team and they will want to continue winning matches going forward.
