Known to be a controversial figure in the 2025 Australian Open, tennis legend Novak Djokovic has recently fired a new scandal at the first Grand Slam of the year. After his stellar fourth-round win over Jiri Lehecka, Djokovic refused to give his interview to former tennis player Jim Courier for a customary post-match interview.
Later, the Serbian legend explained his actions and blamed it on offensive and racist insults received from Channel Nine TV broadcaster Tony Jones. Notably, Channel Nine Network is the official broadcaster for the Grand Slam event in Melbourne Park.
“I would like to just clarify the reason why the interview was not conducted on the court, the post-match interview, like it’s a common, usual practice. Couple days ago the famous sports journalist (Tony Jones) who works for the official broadcaster, Channel 9 here in Australia, made a mockery of Serbian fans and also made insulting and offensive comments towards me. And since then, he chose not to issue any public apology. Neither did Channel 9,” Novak Djokovic said.
However, well-known broadcaster Jones revealed that he has already apologized to the Serbian legend after his controversial show last week, where he made some nasty remarks about Serbian fans and mocked them. Jone further issues an apology and has returned to his duties as a host for the Nine Network's coverage of the first Grand Slam of the year.

Nick Kyrgios, who is not at all a stranger to the controversies both on and off the court and shared a great camaraderie with Novak Djokovic, posted a video on social media where he filmed the Channel Nine desk where the Aussie star was seen abusing Jones publicly and showcasing his support for the Serbian legend.
