Naomi Osaka defeated Slovenia's Kaja Juvan in straight sets 6-1 and 7-5. Osaka revealed her hunger to win a trophy and she proceeded to bite it without any hesitation. The celebration was made popular by the 14-time grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal.

"Tastes like victory," she said. The moment was a recall to the celebrations of Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, who famously bit his trophies after some of his most important victories. Nadal announced his retirement from the sport in 2024, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of 22 Grand Slam titles.

Naomi Osaka hasn't been in the best of forms in recent years. However, she has started to make her presence felt in the last few tournaments. After her latest triumph, she now stands at number 48 in the WTA rankings. Naomi Osaka will feature in the Italian Open in preparation for the French Open.

"Kinda ironic to win my first trophy back on the surface that I thought was my worst. That’s one of my favorite things about life though, there’s always room to grow and evolve," Osaka mentioned on X.

Following the celebrations her coach briefed the media about her statement. "I think it's just the fact that she's never spent enough time on this surface, and that, historically, because she didn't spend much time on the surface, she had a lot of losses there, so she probably thought her game wasn't suited to clay. But there's no obvious reason for her not to play well on this surface. So it was important to make a big block on clay. We did that, " said Osaka's coach.
