A bizarre scene was seen at the Barcelona Open 2025 quarter-final clash between Karen Khachanov and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Khachanov won against the home favourite with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-5. Notably, the Russian star was seen smacking a powerful drop shot during his fifth break point in a game. This shot drew big applause from the crowd but seemed to irritate Davidovich Fokina in the game. This winning momentum guided Khachanov to mark a stellar straight-sets victory.
However, the tension was seen brewing up between the two players as they both came out after the game. The top two ATP players were seen engaging in a long, animated discussion without having physical contact. However, as the discussion ended, the two tennis players shared a heartwarming embrace, showcasing true sportsmanship and mutual respect, getting a big roar from the crowd.
“Sometimes, okay, in the heat of the battle, the players are getting a little bit frustrated, let’s say. A little bit emotional, a little bit nervous. In a few games before, we were in a little bit of a fight. Look, at the end of the day, I’m here to fight in a fair-play way so we sorted it out at the end. I don’t have any problem with him, to be honest. Okay, we said some things before, but after, we shook hands like a man and that’s it; it’s over,” Karen Khachanov said after the match.
