The Paris Olympics has been a tournament filled with some great performances from some great players. One of the players we were looking forward to seeing is World number one Iga Swiatek who was the favourite to win a medal in this contest. The Polish superstar has been enjoying a great season and though she missed out in the semi-finals vs Qinwen Zheng she still had a chance to medal in the contest.

Iga Swiatek was up against young Slovakian player Anna Schmiedlova who herself had surprised a lot of players in this tournament. This was the last chance for Swiatek to get her hands on a medal and make her nation proud. This was another game where she had to bring her A-game to the table and put pressure on the Slovakian in this Bronze medal match.

Swiatek secures bronze

It was important for Swiatek to put pressure on Schmiedlova straight away and that is exactly what she did in the first set itself. The Polish went on to win the set convincingly by a score of 6-2. This meant that she was just a set away from winning a medal in this contest. The second set saw her once again dominate Anna as she went on to win the set by 6-1. This was a classic performance from the world-class athlete which made her the first ever Polish tennis player to win a medal in the Olympics.

This was still a great performance from Swiatek in this event even though we would have liked her to win Gold, it is still a proud moment for her country to see her be the first medalist in the sport of tennis from Poland. She will end her journey in the tournament with a win and a medal around her neck and we all have enjoyed the way she has performed in this game as well.
