WATCH: Iga Swiatek avoids Collins scare to make it to her first Olympic semi finals

The Paris Olympics 2024 has been full of surprises in the Womens singles event where we have seen some great matches where even the biggest stars have been eliminated from the competition. The one player who is still considered a favorite in the contest is Iga Swiatek who is the World number one and has played some great tennis this season.

Iga Swiatek was set to play her first Olympic quarter finals match against American Danielle Collins who is considered one of the most competitive tennis players and is currently in the top 10 in WTA. However, she was playing an in form Swiatek who is considered one of the best we have seen on clay in this generation. This was still going to be one of the toughest games the Polish superstar was ever going to play as Collins is known to be one of the most resilient players in the game.

Swiatek goes through to semi finals

There is no doubt that Swiatek is oozing with confidence throughout this tournament and this was evident in the first set itself where Swiatek comfortably beat Collins by a score of 6-1 putting pressure on the 30-year-old veteran straight away. However, Swiatek was in for a surprise as Collins came back stronger by winning the second set by a score of 6-2, making this game a 3-set nail biter. It was a do or die situation for both the players as they were battling for a spot in the semi finals. However the third set saw the Polish superstar dominate again and in the end Collins went on to retire and allow Swiatek to make it to the Semi finals. There was even a moment where Swiatek was hit by a ball Collins which was one of the highlights of the game. But she still stood up and played the game.

This was the first game where Swiatek got a scare and was in a position where her Olympic dreams might end, but in the end it is her who has created history once again being the first Polish player to make it to the semi finals of Olympics. She is now just one win away from fixing her chances to win a medal and two wins away from achieving Olympic Glory.
