Notably, the final match itself was a gruelling contest where the two-time defending champion initially struggled but managed to win the second set after losing the first set to the American star. However, she ultimately fell short in the decider and third set. This loss prevented her from achieving a historic milestone of the third consecutive Australian Open title.
After losing the final game, Sabalenka displayed visible distress and upset, even throwing her racquet, before returning to the court for the closing ceremony, where she congratulated eventual winner Madison Keys on her first Grand Slam victory.
“As always, that's your fault, guys. I don't want to see you for the next week. I really hate you. I mean, if she can play consistently like that, I mean, it's not much you can do. I mean, of course, I know how to play against her, but in this match I couldn't really do my stuff. She just played incredible. It seems like she was overhitting everything. The depths of the balls were really crazy. I was trying my best," Aryna Sabalenka said to her team after losing to Madison Keys in the Australian Open Final.
