WATCH: Holger Rune suffers a disappointing first round exit in US Open after loss to Nakashima

The US Open is a tournament full of big stars and we all are seeing some great players being involved in some amazing matches this season. It is safe to say that this has already become a tournament filled with a lot of drama and we have already seen some surprising results in the game. There are still a lot of matches to go and we hope to keep seeing some wonderful matches going forward.

One of the players we all have been looking forward to seeing is Danish number one Holger Rune who is one of the young upcoming stars of tennis.  It has not really been a season to remember for the young 21-year-old, but there is no doubt that the US open was another great opportunity for him to bring his best game. He was up against Brandon Nakashima anb he was no doubt a clear winner on paper being a 15 seeded player in the tournament.

Rune suffers a terrible first round exit

There was a lot of hope for Rune to start well against an unseeded Nakashima, but unfortunately the first set itself was a horrible display of tennis from him with the American beating him by a score of 6-2. The second set was as disappointing as the first with the three time Grand Slam quarter finalist losing by a margin of 6-1. It was do or die for Rune in the third set, but unfortunately Nakashima got the better of him and made sure he got a strainght victory and caused one of the biggest upsets in the US Open 2024 so far.

This was another terrible end to the tournament for Holger Rune who has faced an early elimination in the tournament. There is no doubt that Rune is a talented player, but not only is he out of the top 10 rankings, but he has just suffered one of his worst defeats in Grand Slams and could not even get past round 1. This has continued to be another bad outing for the 21-year-old which will be tough to comeback from.
