Notably, Carlos Alcaraz took a 2-1 lead in the second set of the game, but he asked for a medical timeout with his leg problem, and thereafter he failed to turn the game, leaving the crowd worried about his fitness.

Just after the game, one of the fans shared a video of the star player on Twitter, where he was seen bursting into tears following his loss. The fans were sympathetic towards him after watching the video, which has been widely shared on social media. The video showcases Alcaraz sitting in the corner with his teary eyes.

The tennis world has understood that this tear didn't just come from his final loss, but he missed the chance to win his third ATP title of the year. The four-time Grand Slam winner won the ABN AMRO Open 2025 and the Monte Carlo Masters tournament earlier this year. In addition, the 21-year-old star player must be aiming to topple Jannik Sinner to become the new world number one, but his hopes were shattered after he lost the game.

What's next for Carlos Alcaraz after the Barcelona Open final loss?

Despite this loss, Alcaraz will be showcasing his dominance in the forthcoming Mutua Madrid Open 2025 as he aims to defend his French Open title. He suffered an exit in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after his loss to Novak Djokovic. The tennis player must have set his sights on the second Grand Slam of the year.

"Congratulations, Holger, on an amazing week. Coming from Monte-Carlo, you had to retire. Coming here and showing a great effort to make the people enjoy watching tennis, I appreciate that. We've been seeing each other since we were 12 years old, time flies. So I'm just really happy to see us in this position, and how far we've come together," said Carlos Alcaraz after losing to Rune.
