The 2nd round of the Monte Carlo Masters has been a great and entertaining tournament for the viewers. This tournament is already filled with a lot of drama. One of the matches the people wanted to witness in this round was between Daniil Medvedev and Gael Monfils. Both these players have their own story, where Medvedev has had his struggles on clay and Monfils looking to make a big comeback this tournament. This was a game between a former top 10 and current top 10 player in the ATP rankings.
The match was supposed to be intense knowing that both players are normally known to have similar styles which is to counterpunch the shots rather than playing attacking. Unfortunately, this game was another one-sided bout where Medvedev ended up securing a comfortable victory. The 28-year-old 2021 US Open winner beat the Frenchman in two straight sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. This turned out to be another wildcard entry facing a disappointing upset early into the tournament.
Medvedev frustrated with umpire
Though Medvedev completely dominated Monfils there is still one moment he will still not want to revisit again. There was a moment in the second set where Medvedev missed out on a breakpoint after umpire Lahyani called a shot from Monfils which Medvedev thought was out. After the game, Medvedev showed his frustration over this decision and lashed out completely. Lahyani asked for an apology, which he denied as well. This was a moment of terrible sportsmanship by the world number 4 in the ATP rankings.

Despite this reaction, Medvedev still went on to win the game and make it to the next round of the tournament. He will be up against fellow countryman Karen Khachanov in the 3rd round of the Monte Carlo Masters. Medvedev will not want to remember this incident which has put him in a bad light. However, he has still won his second game this clay season and will be looking to prove that he can be as threatening on clay as well.
