WATCH: Daniil Medvedev given penalty for throwing racquet and smashing mic

Daniil Medvedev was given a penalty for throwing his racquet and smashing the mic during his ATP Finals match against American number 1 Taylor Fritz. A frustrating day for the World number 4 who suffered a straight loss against the American number 1 and started his season on a negative note.

The ATP Finals has begun with the first match being played between Russian star Daniil Medvedev and US Open finalist Taylor Fritz. This was another match where Fritz surprised another top contender in Medvedev as he won against the Russian in straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3. This was a one-sided encounter which none of us had expected at all where Fritz had completely outdone the 2021 US Open champion.

Medvedev gets a penalty 

The match was already frustrating for Medvedev where he had to deal with a lot of unforced errors during the match. The Russian was in no position to win the game at any point and he took out his frustrations by throwing his racquet and also smashing the mic as well. The chair umpire gave a penalty to the World number 4 and this was perhaps another low moment in what has been a season full of unlucky results and he was unable to start his ATP Finals journey with a win.

This match sums up the season Medvedev has been having so far and there is no doubt that this will affect his confidence going forward in this competition as well. Medvedev has to come back strong in the next few matches and a straight loss like this will make it difficult for him going further into the tournament as well. We hope we can see him back at his best in the next match.
