The Swedish Open is featuring some top players in the setup and this is currently one of the tournaments that will prepare the players for the upcoming Olympics. There will be players who will be looking forward to getting some games before the upcoming global event this season. One of the players who was one of the favourites to win this tournament was Casper Ruud who is currently the World number 9 in the ATP rankings.

The Norweigan talent was up against unseeded Thiago Monteiro in the round of 16, match and the odds were definitely against the Brazilian, who might have beaten some top players this season, but did not seem like the one who could have got the better of Ruud. This looked like a match that Ruud could easily win on paper and get to the playoffs of the tournament.

Monteiro surprises Ruud

The match started with Montiero straight away getting the upper hand over Ruud in the first set winning it by a score of 6-3. This put him straight under pressure, but there was still belief by the fans that Ruud would come back in the second set. Unfortunately, for them, Monteiro got the better of Ruud once again and this turned out to be one of the most shocking defeats we had ever witnessed in this tournament. This is one tournament where we expected Ruud to win since he had a great season on clay and was also a finalist in the last season.

This was yet another surprise by the Brazilian who has been making a habit of upsets in this entire tournament. This was not the match we expected Ruud to lose in two straight sets and bow out of the competition this soon. We all know how well Ruud can play when he is in great touch and this was an off day for the World number 9 and three-time Grand Slam finalist.
