Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna scripted history after he became the oldest player to mark a stellar win in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament. The 45-year-old legend set the record at the ongoing Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tournament while partnering with 22-year-old star player Ben Shelton.

Bopanna and Shelton have thwarted Francisco Cerundolo and Alejandra Tabilo with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-5. Notably, this record was earlier held by Daniel Nestor, who emerged victorious in the Madrid Masters in 2017 when he was 44 years and 8 months old. The star pair is now set to face Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the pre-quarters, where they aim to seal the quarter-final berth.

The star duo took 71 minutes to complete this game against Cerundolo and Tabilo after breaking their opponent's serve three times. The two players look great when they seal the opening set. Both dominated the clay courts in the next set as well to mark a stellar straight-set victory.

Rohan Bopanna slams UP Open mixed doubles changes!

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna made the bold headlines just a few months back when he spoke about new changes in the US Open mixed doubles. It has come to note that only eight teams are set to qualify based on their rankings.

Speaking about the same subject, Bopanna has said that by making these changes in the Grand Slam, the chances of Indian players winning the tournament will be reduced. The 45-year-old legend feels that if Indian players won't be able to compete, then this change would shatter the aspirations of many tennis players from the nation.

"India has always found its Grand Slam success in doubles. By restricting entry to singles-ranked players, the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles effectively sidelines India from contention, denying millions of Indian fans the chance to see their country represented on one of tennis' biggest stages. It dampens the aspirations of countless young athletes who dream of carrying India's legacy forward in Grand Slam tennis. If Indian doubles players can't compete, the very foundation of our tennis culture takes a hit," Bopanna told Sportskeeda in an exclusive.
