WATCH: Belinda Bencic's husband in tears after her stunning Abu Dhabi Open win

Belinda Bencic defeated Ashely Krueger in the final of the Abu Dhabi Open 2025 after losing a set in the early stages and making an incredible comeback in the latter stages to win the match. She won by 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 and clinched her ninth WTA title. This is her second title in Abu Dhabi and the first one was when she won in 2023. The most incredible thing here was she gave birth to her daughter last April and this year she won her first WTA title. 

She became the first mother to win a major WTA title since Victoria Azarenka’s Cincinnati win. The Swiss player started her campaign in Abu Dhabi against Rebecca Sramkova and won the first round. She then played against Veronika Kudermetova in the next round and moved to the quarterfinals. There she played against Marketa Vondrousova and emerged victorious, thus reaching her first semi-finals game in many years. Belinda then met the top-seeded Elena Rybakina, defeated her by 6-3, 3-6 and 4-6 and entered the finals.

In the finals, the American player took the early advantage against the Swiss by winning the first set by 4-6. Then Bencic fought back with a swift 6-1 in the second set and in the final set again won by 6-1, securing her first victory since returning to tennis after giving birth to a baby.

After the victory, she got emotional and went straight to her baby as she hugged and kissing her. Even Belinda’s husband became emotional and tears overflowed from his eyes. Her husband was holding the baby upon his chest and went back towards the stands, wiped his tears and gave a kiss to his baby. The raw emotions were very nice to see after her win as a mother.

The beautiful family of the former WTA No. 4 became very proud of her achievement and hard work as she won the Abu Dhabi title. She is 27 years old and still has two to three years left in her tennis career. Her biggest achievement in Tennis was her Olympic gold medal win during the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
