Alexander Zverev pushed the Laver Cup 2024 to a decisive final match with an incredible win over Frances Tiafoe. The German superstar secured three crucial points with a 6-7(5) 7-5 10-5 win for Team Europe in a battle that lasted two hours and 34 minutes at the Uber Arena.

With this win, the tournament leaderboard stands at 11-10, with Team Europe just one point behind Team World. In addition, Zverev extended his head-to-head lead over the American to 8-1.

Following his win, the World No. 2 was seen screaming and punching the air in delight. Speaking after the match, Zverev said that he pulled all his energy and effort to win the game for his team.

“It was a win-or-die tie for us and I knew that I had to put all my energy and effort in and the team helped me so much with a lot of great coaching. The stadium was unbelievable today, one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever played in and so special that it’s in Germany as well,” said the Hamburg-born player.

“I had to fight for myself, for the team, for everybody in the stadium, and I’m glad that I came out with the win. We’re getting all so close, you know, during the Laver Cup, we’re all becoming friends all of a sudden. It’s so special, we obviously have one goal and that’s to win here,” he added.

Carlos Alcaraz takes on Taylor Fritz in decisive match

Carlos Alcaraz will take on Taylor Fritz in the decisive match. Meanwhile, Zverev expressed full confidence that Alcaraz would win the encounter. The German also heaped massive praise saying the Spaniard is the best player in the world.

“In my opinion, he’s (Alcaraz) maybe the best player in the world. When he’s healthy, he’s for sure the toughest player to beat and I’m very happy that he’s on our team right now,” Zverev said.
