Pegula began her campaign by defeating her compatriots Shelby Rogers and Sofia Kenin in straights in the first two rounds. The sixth seed’s biggest win came in the quarter-final when she pulled off a major upset against World No. 1 Iga Swiatek.
Meanwhile, Czech star Muchova thrashed four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the second round. Her next remarkable win came against Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round. The Italian, who came on the back of successive finals at the French Open and Wimbledon, was stunned. The World No. 52 dominated Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarter-final.

Head-to-Head
Jessica Pegula and Karolina Muchova met each other only once. Their only encounter came earlier this year at the Cincinnati Open, which Pegula won in three tight sets.
Both Pegula and Muchova have won 76 per cent of the first-serve points in this year’s US Open. The American has hit 18 aces, while the Czech star served out 22 aces and only 7 double faults in the entire tournament so far. This is the first time Pegula has reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam event, while Muchova was at the same venue last year, where she lost to Coco Gauff. However, given the current form, Pegula is considered the favourite to advance to the final.
