Iga Swiatek started her campaign in the United Cup 2025 on a winning note with an amazing win in the first game against one of her favourite opponents, Karolina Muchova. Swiatek and Muchova took on each other in the United Cup 2025 game in Sydney on Wednesday, January 1.
World No. 2 Swiatek outplayed Muchova in straight sets by a margin of 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the next stage of the tournament. Besides that, the 28-year-old has kept Poland alive in the tournament after tying the scoreline 1-1 with the Czech Republic.
Poland will now eye securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament with success in their coming assignments and challenges.
I’m happy that I got my intensity even higher – Karolina Muchova
Swiatek also spoke after her win against Karolina; she felt that Karolina had been one of the opponents he had loved to play against.
“Honestly, I love playing against Karolina because she always brings precision and intensity and a little bit of a different game than most girls. So, for sure, it’s a challenge. I’m happy that even though I lost my serve when I thought it would be easier, I’m happy that I got my intensity even higher in the last two games to break again,” said Swiatek after the win against the Czech star.
“I knew what was at stake. So, in tough moments I just tried to loosen up my hand and force myself to not change any movements because of any thoughts. That’s the most important thing in tennis, to try and use your intuition as much as possible and I think I did that in the last rallies for sure,” she added later.
Now, Swiatek will be aiming a success further in her next assignment to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament. She will look ahead to take Poland into a lead against the Czech Republic in the ongoing United Cup 2024.
