Jasmine Paolini guides Italy Into United Cup 2025 quarter-finals

Tennis star Jasmine Paolini led Italy into the quarter-finals of the mixed-team United Cup 2025 on December 31, with the world number one in red-hot form on the tennis court. The Italian defeated Chloe Paquet, who made it to the top 100 for the first time, by 6-0, 6-2 at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, Australia. It followed her 6-1, 6-1 thrashing of Belinda Bencic in her opening thriller heading to the Australian Open 2025, slated to take place in mid-January in Melbourne.

Jasmine Paolini had a memorable 2025, ending her journey as the runner-up of the Roland Garros and Wimbledon and winning the second title of her tennis career in Dubai. The star player also emerged victorious in the doubles at the Paris Olympics and helped her side to Billie Jean King's glory.

We had just like two weeks off so it’s not really pre-season: Coco Gauff

The star player won the first seven matches before Paquet got on the scoreboard. However, it was a minor blip, as the 28-year-old took the charge back to register an impressive win.

“We had just like two weeks off so it’s not really pre-season… but we try to match by match add something to my game, mentally as well. It’s the last match of 2024.. so I want to wish a happy new year to everybody who’s here. You must really like tennis to be here. so happy New Year. Wish you good health, happiness, and everything that you wish for," Jasmine Paolini said after the win, as quoted by Tennis Letter.

On the other hand, the top-seeded pair of Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz of the USA are in the mixed team quarterfinals.
