Tennis stars Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff have won their singles matches against the Czechs on January 4 to guide the USA team into the final thriller of the 2025 United Cup. It is the second time that the Americans have made their way to the final showdown, having won the team event back in 2023. The WTA number three defeated Karolina Muchova by 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinal thriller. The USA side is now set to face Poland in the final thriller.
However, their second game was so easy and straightforward, with Taylor Fritz crushing star player Tomas Machac by retirement, 6-7, 6-5, after he was forced to retire from the game due to leg cramping in the second set of the game.
Coco Gauff has talked about her game against Karolina and revealed that it has never been an easy game while playing against her. The 20-year-old revealed that she was focused in the game, which has made the big difference in the game.

“It’s never easy playing Karolina. Kind of the whole match, I was intense and focused, so I think that made the difference today. I’m happy to get my team off to a good start,” the WTA No. 3 said afterwards in her on-court interview.

Tomas Machac's cramps cost him the game
On the other hand, Fritz was also happy after he guided his side, USA, to advance to the 2025 United Finals with his blistering performances before tennis star Tomas retired from the game. Fritz also talked about how Tomas has been cramping for the past few days, which has cost him the game.

“That was obviously a crazy match, very physical—that’s not the way I wanted it to end, but we’re happy to be back in the finals again. He said he’d been cramping for a couple of games already. It’s really humid here. That’s something I was really thinking of as a possibility; if I could win that set and take it to a third, I was thinking someone might start cramping. It was tough conditions,” Fritz said.
