Iga Swiatek (Source- X)
The Italian Open has been going on well and we have enjoyed watching games in both the WTA and ATP tours. The centre of attention of the tournament were two greats, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Not only do these individuals have 46 grand slams among them but also have had some of the best rivalries throughout their careers. The Italian Open is the tournament where they had some of their best games.
Though these guys were considered popular, we cannot forget another centre of attention world number 1 Iga Swiatek. The Polish is currently dominating the WTA rankings and players and was the winner of the Madrid Open as well. This has once again been another great season for the 4-time Grand Slam champion who has won three WTA singles titles in this tour right now and is also looking strong in Rome as well.
Iga gives a clear response
Iga is once again having a great tournament so far as she has recently beaten Yulia Putintseva in the 3rd round of the competition and has comfortably made it into the 4th. The Polish will be facing German Angelique Kerber in the next game. After her game against Yulia Iga in a press conference was asked by the reporter on Nadal and Djokovic getting more attention than her, to which the 22-year-old gave a solid replay saying " Well, I don't know if that was a punch or not. I think there is some attention on me, but I understand why Rafa and Novak, have such a huge fan base. It's not like I'm jealous or something."
The world number 1 further added to her answer stating " Well, it's Rafa's last tournament - not last, but last tournament in Rome possibly. I get why people are focusing on watching him. And Novak, obviously he's the G.O.A.T. as well. I don't understand this question, honestly.” Hearing this statement was a perfect reply to what was a very odd question from the reporter where she kept the respect of the legends and handled herself well.
