The Monte Carlo masters will begin with the qualifiers that will begin today at 8:30 pm. The draw for most of the season has already been decided for the tournament. As usual, the top-seeded and ranked players will automatically qualify to play in the second round of the ATP Masters tournament. We have some world-class players who will be featuring in the upcoming tournament this clay season.
One of the players that people will look forward to is Novak Djokovic. The current world number 1 is currently regarded as one of the greatest players of this generation. However, it has not been a great time for the Serbian in the last two tournaments, where he not only lost the Australian Open semi-final but crashed out in the third round of the Indian Wells. This is the time Djoko might need redemption this clay season to show that he is one of the best in the world.
Djokovic’s projected path to glory
Djokovic will start his season playing in the second round of the tournament where his first opponent will be decided as per the qualifications of the tournament. Anything can happen in the game of tennis where you will have to win every match to make it big in the tournament. These could be the potential opponents for the 24-time grand slam winner going into the competition.
Round 2- Roman Saifullin
Roman Saifullin has not yet hit his peak in the game right now. The Russian still does a great job in qualifiers and has been a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 2023. We still expect Djokovic to get past Saifullin in round 2 being the top-ranked player in the contest. This will most likely be a nice and easy victory for the 2-time Monte Carlo masters champion and he will look to make the most out of this match.
Round 3- Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz is one of the up-and-coming Tennis players from the United States of America right now. The 26-year-old has 7 career titles to his name and has made it to three Grand Slam quarter-finals already. The one player who has been an obstacle on his way to glory has been Djokovic himself. In fact, Djoko has a 9-0 winning streak against the young American and he should be the favourite to win this contest and make it to the knockouts making it his 10th consecutive victory against Fritz.
Quarterfinals- Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev might be the defending champion going into the tournament and is currently one of the top-ranked players with 15 career titles to his name, however, when he has come against Djokovic it has been a struggle. Last season he was fortunate not to face Djokovic in the tournament who exited in the third round. Djokovic holds a great record against the Russian and it might not be that easy looking at Rublev’s form this season, but we expect him to beat him in this encounter looking at the history these two have had in which Djokovic had knocked him out in two grand slam quarter-finals.
Semi finals- Carlos Alcaraz
What could be better than Djoko’s current rival in the tennis world? Carlos Alcaraz and Djokovic have already had some iconic matches in the past few years. The two have had a really close head-to-head rivalry so far, where Djokovic is edging past Alcaraz in the matchups. Alcaraz might have got the better of Djoko on two occasions, but it is the Serbian powerhouse who has come out on top, especially in the ATP masters in Madrid on the clay surface. It won’t be wrong to say that this can be another intense game between the two, but Djokovic will still be a favourite to win.
Final- Jannick Sinner
This will be the perfect redemption story for Djokovic going against the man who knocked him out in the Australian Open this season. The Italian has been in great form right now, but he is yet to see Djoko at his best. This will be an opportunity for both these players who will have a lot to prove in this match. Looking at Sinner struggling on clay in the past, Djokovic who has dominated it on occasions should be the man to beat him and get closer to his 99th career title in the singles category. This will still be expected to be an epic clash between two of the world's greatest tennis players right now and get Djokovic right back to his winning ways.
