There seem to be some quite interesting words from star player Carlos Alcaraz in a press conference ahead of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tournament. Just a few days back, the four-time Grand Slam winner was making the bold headlines after his horrendous first-round defeat in the Miami Open 2025.
However, despite severe criticism, the Spaniard has always said that his world number three rankings did not affect him at all as he tried to stay focused on his own path, but it is clear that reality always ends up affecting him in some way. Speaking about the same subject, Carlos Alcaraz didn't hold himself back while admitting that the pressure of reaching the world ranking has killed him in the absence of Jannik Sinner.
What's next for Carlos Alcaraz on the ATP tours?
Carlos Alcaraz, who has been gearing up for the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tournament, revealed that the tennis fans have continuously targeted him and world number two, Alexander Zverev, to claim the top rankings in the absence of the 23-year-old Italian star, who enters his last month of the ban suspension.
The world number three again clarified that he is not surprised after not being able to attain top rankings despite many people expecting him to claim the top spot. The 21-year-old tennis player again mentioned that he will just try to focus on himself to give his best.
“A lot of people are asking me, or are telling me, that I have the chance to become No. 1 if Jannik isn't playing. So probably that pressure has killed me in some way. I'm just thinking that I'm not able to become No. 1 in the clay season, even if Jannik is not playing, I don't have the chance to do it. I think I'm too far from Jannik. So I'm just here and I realise that I don't have to think about it and just go there and play. That's my mindset right now," Carlos Alcaraz said.
