Thanasi Kokkinakis is ready to upset Team Europe in the Laver Cup

Thanasi Kokkinakis is returning to the Laver Cup after 7 years. He will play for Team World against Team Europe in the Tournament. He was present during the Inaugural Laver Cup Tournament held in Prague. The No. 78 ranked Australian defeated notable names like Jakub Mensik, and Arthur Fils in the Davis Cup. He also defeated team Europe Stefanos Tsistsipas in the US Open opening round. 

Kokkinakis has many upsets to his name, in Wimbledon he eliminated Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round. At the Roland Garros, he defeated Alexei Popyrin who had beaten Novak Djokovic at the US Open game. He nearly defeated Taylor Fritz at Roland Garros. 

Thanasi Ready to Upset

Talking about his participation in the Laver Cup Kokkinakis said he is eager to compete in this unique tournament. He says “Hopefully we can get rowdy. I love having fun and hopefully just trying to make everyone feel good. Im pretty open to talk. I like having a bit more fun with my mates on the sidelines.”

Thanasi sees himself as a ‘Glue Player’ for Team World. He also praised Team World’s Captain John McEnroe for leading the Team and securing two Laver Cup victories against Team Europe. Kokkinakis is now called a ‘Giant Killer’ after causing upsets to many Top-seeded Tennis Players. Team World will be looking to utilize Kokkinakis upset energy to win this year's Laver Cup against Team Europe. 

Team Europe lineup has Top seeded players like Carlos Alcaraz, Dimitrov, Medvedev, Rudd, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Cobolli, Struff, Borg (Captain), and Enqvist (Vice Captain). Team World lineup consists of Cerundolo, Fritz, Kokkinakis, Shelton, Tabilo, Tiafoe, John Mcenroe (Captain), and Patrick Mcenroe (Vice-captain). 

In Team World Taylor Fritz and Tiafoe are the only Top 10 ranked Tennis player. But on the other hand in Team Europe Stefanos Tsistsipas is only one Player out of the top 10. Team Europe has a good advantage over the world. But in Tennis, anything can happen at any time. so always expect the unexpected.
