Surprisingly, De Minaur didn't have a great start to the game, with Fonseca showcasing stellar shots that baffled him and winning the opening set. However, the 26-year-old kept calm, dominated, and controlled his pace to level up the thriller.

After that, de Minaur continued his dominating form, took advantage of the Brazilian's unforced error in the game, and stormed into the next round. During the game, Fonseca was completely baffled as he lost the thriller against ATP world number 10 despite taking an early lead in the game. The young sensation was seen making many errors in the game, which allowed his opponent to gain an advantage over his weakness.

How did Joao Fonseca lose the game against Alex de Minaur?

However, Fonseca has admitted that he missed many opportunities in the second set of the game, which allowed De Minaur to mark his return to level up the game. The 18-year-old star player feels that he could not seize the opportunities he got in the game, which makes him lose the game.

“At 4-4 in the second set, I had several break opportunities; I remember missing one with a slice. I had a good return, but the ball was low; maybe I could've hit it like I usually do, but I was too passive. Those are the moments when the opportunity arises, but I couldn't seize it. Sometimes you get a bit frustrated, but it happens all the time; that's tennis; there will always be moments like this," Joao Fonseca said in the post-match conference.
