A Serbian newspaer named 'Informer' targeted Novak Djokovic and termed him 'A false patriot'. Djokovic, who was termed a 'National Hero' after winning the Paris Olympics Gold Medal, was accused of being against the government. The former World No.1 supported a protest of 300,000 people in March 2025 and announced the shift of ATP 250 Belgrade Open from Serbia to Greece.

Things have changed very quickly in a matter of just a year. When Novak made Serbia proud by winning the gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, he got tremendous reception in Serbia and was regarded a National Hero by the media outlets. His praise remained constant for the rest of the year.

There were reports that claimed that there were plans of building a museum to honor the legendary Tennis star. However, in late 2024, an unfortunate incident occured in Serbia, where a Novi Sad train station roof collapsed, leading to the death of 16 people, which led to widespread protests across the country.

Why does some Serbian media and newspaper outlets hate Novak Djokovic since 2025?

Novak took to Instagram and shared a story of over 3,00,000 people protesting, thereby indicating his support for the act against the government. He also announced the shift of ATP 250 Belgrade Open from Serbia to Greece, something which was used as a highlight by the Informer against the star player.

Additionally, after winning one of his matches at Wimbledon 2025, Djokovic pulled off some dance moves, along with his daughter, which sparked a controversy, claiming the dance was a reference to the protests. Despite the denial from the star player, the hate grew, which has probably transformed into articles against him by the national media.
