The Roland Garros will be coming to an end today and we have enjoyed this Clay season finale in these couple of weeks filled with some great matches and performances. The Grand Slam tournament was filled with thrilling matches and surprising results that we never saw coming. This has been a tournament to remember for everyone where we have seen some great performances from some of the best players on the card as well.

Though we enjoyed watching the top players in the setup play some of their best matches, we should also look into the players who were one of the dark horses of the tournament. These were the players we did not expect to get that far in the tournament, which was filled with some great players in the mix. This has been a tournament to remember due to the big surprises that we have witnessed and these were the players that have made it happen.

So, here are the top surprising performances of Roland Garros who have impressed everyone this season:

5. Tallon Griekspoor

griekspoor

The Netherlands has not been known to produce a lot of tennis players in the mix, it was Tallon Griekspoor who was the man who was the best in the sport and is currently a 27-ranked player in the ATP. Tallon Griekspoor did make it into round three by defeating some unseeded players Michael Mcdonald and Luciano Darderi, but almost beat the odds against Alexander Zverev where it was one of the most thrilling 5-set games in the tournament. Though Griekspoor ended up on the losing side, he made the world number 4 work hard and almost got the win. This 3rd round performance should be applauded by everyone.

4. Matteo Arnaldi

arnaldi

This was a tournament where the Italians gave us some great performances, one of the best performers apart from Jannik Sinner, was Matteo Arnaldi who was one of the unseeded players in the draw. Though Arnaldi is an extremely talented prospect in the game, we still did not expect him to get this far in the tournament. Beating the likes of Arthur Fils and Alexandre Muller was already a decent performance from the 23-year-old, but he was not done there. Arnaldi went on to beat a higher-seeded and top-10-ranked player Andrey Rublev in three straight sets setting up a big match with the Greek God Stefanos Tsitsipas against who he also won a set. This was still a great performance from the upcoming talent despite missing the playoffs after losing to Tsitsipas in the 4th round.

3. Alex de Minaur

de minaur

Alex de Minaur is another talented player in the mix who does have the ability to give some great matches due to his athletic ability on the court, but no one thought he would ever make it to the playoffs as the draw was looking tough as well. Mijnaur had already done a great job getting to round 4 beating the likes of Alex Michelsen and JL Struff. however, the match that made his performance recognizable was with world number 5 Daniil Medvedev, who he defeated in a 4-set game after being one set down. This was another great performance from the Aussie who made it to his first quarter-finals at the Roland Garros.

2. Mirra Andreeva

andreeva

It is always great to see some young teenagers perform in the Grand Slams and that is exactly what the 16-year-old Russian did this season. Though we all know how talented Mirra Andreeva is this was still a big tournament and she had to give her best to get as far as she did. Andreeva had already impressed us from the second round itself beating 2-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka. She continued her great form going forward and eventually beat World number 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals being one of the youngest players to play a Roland Garros semi-final.

1. Jasmine Paolini

Paolini

The Italians were the heroes of this current tournament and it was evident with the performance of Jasmine Paolini in the Roland Garros this season. The 28-year-old was known to have a terrible record in major tournaments, but this tournament was a whole different story for her. Paolini did not have much of a challenging draw which saw her qualify for her first quarter-finals in the tournament. However, this was not enough since Paolini also went on to defeat world number 4 Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals and already surprised everyone. This was not enough as she also went on to play the finals against Swiatek as well. Though she did not end up achieving Grand Slam glory, it was still one of the best performances in the tournament.
