Tennis star Rafael Nadal bid an emotional farewell to the Madrid Open 2024 after suffering a defeat against Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round of the marquee event which knocked him out of the race of the quarters. Notably, Nadal is the most successful player in the history of the Madrid Open, having won the title five times in his professional career. However, the 37-year-old player lost the game against the tenacious Jiri, who was magnificent on the tennis court.

Nadal revealed that he is extremely happy despite the loss in the tournament. In addition, the great player talks about playing the game despite injury setbacks and also reveals his unforgettable journey during the Madrid Open.

"I'm happy. It was a very special week for me, very positive in every way. I was able to play again on a court that has given me a lot, also on an emotional level. It has been unforgettable, and I can only say 'thank you'. It has been an incredible journey. It's very difficult, but life and my body have been sending signals to me for a long time. I have been fortunate to turn my passion into my job. I am privileged," Rafael Nadal said in an on-court interview.

Meanwhile, Jiri was ecstatic after defeating the 21-time Grand Slam winner in the recent game. The star player says that it was his dream to share the court with him in his career, and he is very grateful to have won the match against Nadal in round number 16, which places him in the quarterfinals.

"It's amazing. For me to share the court with such a legendary player is a dream come true. I always wished to have this happen. I'm very grateful to achieve such a big moment. All the best to Rafa. This was something I've never experienced before in my life on a tennis court," Lehecka said.
